Rules & Registration

  1. Eligibility: All residents and businesses within El Cajon city limits are eligible to participate.

  2. The area to be judged must be visible from the public street or sidewalk.

  3. For the 'Most Improved' category, “Before and Aftahhhh…,” before pictures are required for entry.

  4. Registration: Begins February 1st and must be registered no later than May 1st. Participants must register by submitting a form available on the city’s website, including 'before' photos if entering the 'Most Improved' category.

  5. Judging Criteria: A panel of community leaders, elected officials, and city employees will evaluate the entries based on aesthetics, creativity, maintenance, sustainability, and overall impact.​

  6. Categories: Both residences and businesses will have the opportunity to enter with multiple categories listed below.

  7. Judging Date: All entries must be completed and ready for judging on Friday, June 28th.

  8. Prizes: Winners will be notified on Monday, July 1st, and acknowledged at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, July 9th. Prizes include gift certificates and gardening supplies from local sponsors. UPDATE: Due to City Council Schedules, the awards presentation will take place on Tuesday, July 23rd at 3:00 PM.

  9. Maintenance: Participants are responsible for the maintenance of their property throughout the competition period. Neglect could result in disqualification.

  10. Community Engagement: Participants are encouraged to share their progress and tips on social media using a designated hashtag to foster community involvement.

  11. Photography: Participants agree to have their front yard or businesses photographed for use by the City of El Cajon and/or the community sponsors of the June Bloom event.
